Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust signs new contract for Civica’s Cito system

New five-year contract supports the Trust’s ‘paperless’ vision to facilitate integrated care, improved clinical safety and enhanced patient outcomes

Civica, a market leader in business-critical software applications, digital solutions and managed services has won a new five-year contract with Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust (LCFT) to implement its market-leading electronic document management system (EDMS) and clinical information management system, Cito.

The Cito software will facilitate and drive the Trust’s digital strategy and support its aim of being paperless at the point of care by 2020.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is the principal provider of integrated health and well-being services for approximately 1.5 million people. The Trust employs more than 7,000 people to deliver a diverse range of front-line physical and mental health services from more than 400 premises across a range of community and inpatient settings.

Designed to address the Trust’s immediate and on-going needs, Cito enables a real-time single view of patients by unifying and structuring clinical data and allows users access to critical information via any device or web browser. It is customisable, robust, flexible and scalable. Additionally, its single sign-on interface enhances corporate wide security while negating the need for advanced training for clinical employees.

Civica is a longstanding partner of LCFT which has used its EDMS, WinDIP since 2007, to actively progress the digitisation of its paper records in its aim to become paperless by 2020. This major new upgrade through full migration to Cito, a flexible and responsive browser-agnostic system, will support and deliver on LCFT’s wider patient-centric models of care.

With its advanced integration capabilities, Cito will provide the Trust with intuitive and responsive real-time, single-view clinical access to critical patient information. This will allow improved quality of service and care; heightened standards of clinical safety and enhanced employee productivity and resource management. Via better information sharing, it will also seamlessly connect disparate parts of the Trust’s mental and physical health services to guarantee effective clinical pathways.

By facilitating instant access to patient records and the transfer of essential correspondence between the Trust and its healthcare partners, clinicians will be able to gather insights and information along the patient’s care pathway immediately. This will ensure informed and assured decision making to improve outcomes for patients.

Furthermore, the seamless digital integration will enhance operational efficiencies to provide benefits across the Trust. This includes more effective assessment outcomes, faster discharge processes and deliver real-time access to critical information at the point of care.

Damian Parkinson, Director of Health Informatics at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, explained: “By upgrading to Civica’s Cito system, we’ll take advantage of multiple operational benefits in terms of efficiency, productivity and clinical safety. Patient care is always at the forefront of everything we do and implementation of the new solution will result in enhanced quality of patient experience and better ongoing outcomes for all our service users.

“Our partnership with Civica has, for more than a decade now, been pivotal to the Trust’s digital transformation, enabling us to innovate and exploit technology to transform care. It’s also helping to drive our overarching strategy and objective to achieve a paperless point of care as a mark of efficiency, truly integrated capability and quality of service.”

David Roots, Executive Director, Health & Care, Civica, commented: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with LCFT through its migration to our Cito system. Cito supports the Trust’s vision to drive digital transformation, optimise care and outcomes through information and data sharing and achieve paperless operations as standard. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Trust in the coming years to evolve our offering in line with the organisation’s changing digital needs.”

With a 30-year track record in the health sector, Civica delivers critical software solutions to over 400 customers across the NHS and private care sector: from electronic prescribing and patient records to enhanced workforce efficiency.
