Singapore, November 03, 2017: Civica, a leading global supplier of critical software applications, digital solutions and managed services that help transform the way organisations work, is delighted to announce the winners of the seventh Tales of S national writing competition. The winners were announced in a ceremony that took place on Friday.

Popular young adult writer, Maranna Chan, attended the event as a guest along with representatives of Civica Singapore and MOE and the participants. During the ceremony, Civica Singapore recognised 40 young authors whose entries will be published in an ebook with a limited edition hard copy release.

Civica Singapore organises Tales of S every year as a fun and exciting opportunity for students to express their original ideas. Through Tales of S, students can connect with and entertain their peers and the wider community, and become a published author in the process. The competition is open to primary, secondary and junior college students from MOE schools and international schools in Singapore. Winners are selected based on the originality and creativity of their work. The winning entries are published every year in a book by the same name.

Since 2011, young writers in Singapore have penned creative tales for Civica’s national writing competition, which has a unique theme every year. Over the past seven years, Civica has received over 3,500 entries with nearly 250 published authors.

This year’s theme, ‘Get creative with superpowers,’ motivated students to think creatively. Their short stories not only showcased their imagination but also revealed an unexpected plot turn. As a result, 40 entries out of more than 450 received were chosen for inclusion in a book titled Tales of S: Ordinary people; Extraordinary powers!

SS Chopra, Managing Director, Civica Singapore, was on the judging panel. He revealed that Civica Singapore was very proud of the initiative that promotes literacy and creativity in Singapore. “This unique project, now in its seventh year, showcases the very best of Singapore’s talent and every year we are impressed with the high quality of writing submitted by primary, secondary, and junior college students,” he said.

“As the provider for Media Resource Libraries for the Ministry of Education for the past 12 years our hope is that this competition continues to inspire students to embark upon a lifelong journey of writing and reading for pleasure,” he added.

Tales of S will be placed in Singapore’s legal deposit after the event and will be available for download for all Singapore students and teachers in the Spydus Library Management system used by all schools.
