London 2020 - Our Venue

Inspiring better public services for London
Thursday 27th February, ArcelorMittal Orbit

Civica Innovate will be hosted in the ArcelorMittal Orbit - an award-winning venue that rises 262ft into the clouds to give panoramic views across London. Located at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – one of London’s most memorable recent events and sporting triumphs – the venue showcases the work completed by the London Legacy Development Corporation in driving innovation and growth in the east of the city.

Designed by sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor and engineer Cecil Balmond, the ArcelorMittal Orbit is one of the most striking and enduring visual legacies, with its extraordinary looping structure becoming a byword for innovation.

The venue itself is the UK’s tallest sculpture and is made from 60% recycled steel, including washing machines and used cars and consists of 35,000 bolts - enough steel to make 265 double-decker buses. The Orbit also boasts another achievement – the world’s longest and tallest slide which takes only seconds to descend through the 178m long tunnel.
